Cultural and socioeconomic inequalities have the potential to affect the school career of young people who, although completing basic education, do not continue their studies in Higher Education. In this context, the general objective of this research focuses in investigating the situation of young people who benefited from the Programa Bolsa Família (PBF), who are graduating from the 3rd year of high school, in the city of Amparo (SP), and who do not attend higher education. The theoretical framework considers Pierre Bourdieu's studies about the student's school trajectory, which understands that depending on capital inequalities, inequalities are established between people, who are met differently in their educational needs, which imply their trajectories and perspectives of future. The qualitative approach, without neglecting quantifiable data, was predominant in the research and the production of empirical material took place through the application of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The locus of the research was the city of Amparo (SP). The research participants are the young people described above, totaling six. With the support of the municipality's Department of Social Assistance, a list of all young people who fit the desired profile was obtained. Information on families referring to a total of 31 young people was collected. A questionnaire was applied to six young people, who were willing to participate in the research, and two interviews were carried out, according to the acceptance of the participants. The analysis of the empirical material produced made it possible to verify that none of the young participants in the research is in a university, although they have declared a desire to enter Higher Education in the future. The professional dream of these young people is linked to some type of higher education, such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, History, Psychology, Law. The research revealed that the education of the research participants' parents is mostly defined as incomplete primary education. Regarding the ENEM, the participants, with the exception of one, expressed that the school carried out preparation for the test, but none of them felt prepared to take it, and, therefore, none of them signed up to take the exam, even if they have the prospect of entering higher education. The research carried out, without exhausting the subject, shows that there is a need for public policies in education to be defined and redefined so that the contingent of young people benefiting from the PBF expands the prospects of entering and remaining in higher education, in order to break with the cycle of poverty and promote greater access of this part of the population to university.
