Células-tronco mesenquimais no tratamento de lesão medular em cães

Abstract

A lesão medular em cães, é uma afecção de grande importância na medicina veterinária, pois suas complicações são, geralmente, extensas. Os sinais clínicos da doença são muito abrangentes, pois dependem: do grau da lesão, se agudo, subagudo ou crônico; do local acometido; e de sua progressão. Após o trauma medular, há um processo inflamatório que se instaura no tecido com o objetivo de proteger as células saudáveis restantes, porém esse processo gera grandes consequências como morte de neurônios, estresse oxidativo, a formação de uma cicatriz glial, desmielinização de axônios e, consequentemente, perda de função, e entre outros mecanismos. A terapia celular com células-tronco mesenquimais apresentam grande potencial para o tratamento de lesões no sistema nervoso central, pois suas ações diminuem a inflamação tecidual e a formação de fibrose, providenciam neuroproteção e estimulam a migração de outras células, o que promove regeneração do tecido neural. O objetivo dessa revisão de literatura foi a coleta de dados que comprovem a ação benéfica das células-tronco em lesões medulares para que o tratamento possa ser considerado alternativo às terapias convencionais.

Spinal cord injury in dogs is a condition of great importance in the veterinary medicine, as its complications are generally disastrous. The clinical signs of the disease are very embracive, as they depend on the degree of the lesion, whether acute, subacute or chronic, the affected site, and its progression. After spinal trauma, there is an inflammatory process that takes place in the tissue in order to protect the remaining healthy cells, but this process has great consequences such as neuron death, oxidative stress, the formation of a glial scar, demyelination of axons and, consequently, loss of function, and among other mechanisms. Cell therapy with mesenchymal stem cells has great potential for treating lesions in the central nervous system, as their actions reduce tissue inflammation and the formation of fibrosis, provide neuroprotection and stimulate the migration of other cells, which promotes neural tissue regeneration. The purpose of this literature review was to collect data that prove the beneficial action of stem cells in spinal cord injuries so that the treatment can be considered an alternative to conventional therapies.
