A irmandade do Santíssimo Sacramento de Campinas no Contexto das Reformas Ultramontanas: 1847-1908

Abstract

Diante da problemática e fértil campo de estudo, a presente pesquisa visa analisar as relações entre Igreja e Estado, na segunda metade do século XIX, através do enfoque nas irmandades leigas, em específico, a Irmandade do Santíssimo Sacramento de Campinas, SP. Tais irmandades exerceram participação direta na constituição da religião e da religiosidade no Brasil. Nossa pesquisa propõe essa análise à luz do contexto das chamadas “reformas ultramontanas”, que visavam uma reaproximação da religiosidade local com Roma, através da reforma de seminários de formação e postura do clero, bem como devoções e costumes populares já arraigados na sociedade. Com isso, também as irmandades estavam sujeitas à adequações a partir das recomendações da Santa Sé. Essa dinâmica acabou por gerar uma série de situações, tanto externas da Igreja com o Estado, como internas, nas diferentes linhas de posicionamento do clero e atuação dessas irmandades religiosas que, em decorrência do grande prestígio social e político, não aceitavam submeter-se às diretrizes romanas, gerando um dos momentos mais marcantes na história da Igreja no Brasil, o qual ficou conhecido como a “Questão Religiosa”. A pesquisa se realiza a partir da análise de correspondências e documentos oficiais do bispado de São Paulo, bem como do arquivo documental da Irmandade do Santíssimo Sacramento de Campinas, além de uma revisão bibliográfica acerca do tema, objetivando uma chave de leitura para a compreensão das relações entre Igreja e Estado inseridas em um contexto local, a partir da atuação da referida Irmandade.

The aim of this paper is, from the thought of Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961), founder of Analytical Psychology, to understand the relationship between religious phenomenon and psychic phenomenon. For this, we use the theoretical framework of the author, listing the concepts of psychic energy, personal unconscious, collective unconscious, archetypes, psychological types and process of individuation. Regarding the religious phenomenon, we resort to Jung’s experiences in different times and places, such as: Arabs in the Sahara Desert in North Africa, Mount Elgon in West Africa, Pueblos in New Mexico, Hinduism and Buddhism in India and Christianity in Europe, showing how this phenomenon is present in the most diverse cultural representations and how the individual appropriates it. Jung’s Analytical Psychology and its emphasis on the religious point out that this phenomenon is presented according to the psychic function involved, therefore, emphasizes the importance of observing all forms of religion. The introversion and extroversion types, and the functions, thought, feeling, perception, and intuition, shape the archetypal dynamic in religious and psychic experience and attitude. In his journey, Jung became interested in the psychology of the individual’s religious experiences, which culminate in the process of individuation or psychic wholeness. We appropriate the religious experience of the Apostle Paul in order to represent this process from an individual experience. Thus, this research intends to understand the religious phenomenon from the reports of experiences with the transcendent. The transcendent in the Immanent is what establishes the possible language between the human being and something beyond himself. This language happens through the archetypal religious symbols of the collective unconscious, and the function of the soul as a psychic function is to make these unconscious symbols conscious.
