J. K. Rowling.
(RICOEUR, 1991), espaços de afinidades (GEE, 2004), cultura de fã (THORNE;
situadas e significativas. | pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | Reading and writing practices have permeated society for centuries, and they are still
privileged in contemporary social practices. However, several multimodal and
interactive resources made possible by digital technologies and have enabled the
emergence of innovative practices that integrate and incorporate literary cultures
mobilized by fan communities, a feature in the cyberculture (LEMOS, 2008; FELINTO,
2010). It promotes the creation and sharing of new ways of consumption,
entertainment and socialization. This is the case of Hogwarts Games, an amateur and
collaborative digital game, developed by fans of Harry Potter, the literary saga written
by J. K. Rowling. Supported by WhatsApp, Hogwarts Game holds RPG and MMORPG
features, and is mostly dependent on verbal language, although it also resorts to
multimodality. Based on the studies of Bakhtin´s Circle, I conceive that game as an
utterance which is engendered by subjects, discourses and extraverbal elements. In
view of this, I carried out the present research aiming to investigate Hogwarts Games
and the narratives that constitute it, in order to understand relationships established
between fan culture, literacies practices and the use of a digital platform as a basis for
creating a game. Therefore, it is an interdisciplinary study, of an interpretive character,
in which I adopted digital ethnography (PINK et al, 2016) as a methodological
approach, in order to search for and collect data, which were organized into three
categories) i) screenshots of the game, ii) screenshots of individual messages from
players and iii) personal reports collected with a digital form. Based on the analysis
carried out, in which I dialogued with the concepts of narrative identity (RICOEUR ,
1991), spaces of affinity (GEE, 2004), fan culture (THORNE; BLACK; SYKES, 2009,
ALVES; ROJO, 2020) and literacies practices (MONTE MÓR, 2017; KALANTZIS;
COPE; PINHEIRO, 2020) I had access to the subjectivities of the participants
observed in the reports they provided me, , which allowed me to understand that the
search and creation of communities – based on shared interests – is intertwined with
a sense of need for belonging and socialization. Moreover, in order to reflect upon the
possible implications for language education of the activities observed in Hogwarts
Games, then I proposed that, according to my analysis, there is still a strong need to
connect school practices to cultural practices, as well as to the contents and themes
that interest the contemporary subjects, so that formal educational practices might
build from/provide young students with situated and meaningful learning. | pt_BR |
