Os efeitos de sentido causados pela tradução dos neologismos em Harry Potter e a pedra filosofal

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a tradução em português de neologismos identificados no livro Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal, conforme tradução feita por Lia Wyler, comparando-os com os seus respectivos termos localizados no livro Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, da autora J.K. Rowling. A metodologia utilizada foi uma pesquisa qualitativa interpretativa e estudo de caso, para interpretação e análise com enfoque exploratório e descritivo do objeto em questão, além de uma pesquisa bibliográfica para os aportes teóricos sobre tradução. Para a discussão, serão abordados alguns pontos sobre a teoria da tradução de Antoine Berman (2013; 2009; 2002) e de Lawrence Venuti (2002; 1996), especialmente as estratégias tradutórias propostas pelo segundo, a estrangeirização e a domesticação. Além disso, traremos à discussão procedimentos de tradução propostos por Vinay e Dalbernet (1995) utilizados até hoje na prática profissional. A proposta deste trabalho de conclusão de curso é analisar quais foram as estratégias e os procedimentos tradutórios utilizados por Lia Wyler ao traduzir os neologismos, levando em consideração os efeitos de sentido que eles geram na obra, questionando se foram mantidos na tradução, levando-se em conta o público alvo falante de português do Brasil.

This essay aims to analyze the Portuguese translation of neologisms of the book Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal produced by the translator Lia Wyler, comparing them with their respective neologisms from the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone written by the author JK Rowling. The methodology was a qualitative and interpretative research, and also a case study for interpretation and analysis with an exploratory and descriptive focus in the object in question, in addition to a bibliographic research for the theoretical contributions on translation. This paper will use some theoretical concepts from Berman´s theory of translation (2013; 2009; 2002) and Venuti (2002; 1996), especially the translation strategies proposed by the later, foreignization and domestication. In addition, it will be discussed some translation procedures proposed by Vinay and Dalbernet (1995) used until nowadays in translation practice. The purpose of this final paper is to analyze what were the translation strategies and procedures used by Lia Wyler when she translated the neologisms, taking into account the meaning effects they have in the book, and if they were maintained in the translation, considering the Portuguese speaking target audience.
