O sentido do sofrimento humano na Salvifici Doloris

Abstract

A Carta Apostólica Salvifici Doloris sobre o sentido cristão do sofrimento, publicada no pontificado de João Paulo II (1978-2005) é o documento em que o sofrimento humano é abordado de forma ampla e sistemática. A Salvifici Doloris apresenta um sentido cristão para o sofrimento, tendo como horizonte a vida, paixão, morte e ressurreição de Cristo que trouxe a Redenção ao ser humano. Diante disso, objetivo dessa dissertação é fazer uma abordagem fenomenológica a partir da vida Karol Wojtyla (antes e depois de tornar-se papa), mostrar o desenvolvimento e os desdobramentos que este documento pontifício trouxe para a Igreja Católica na contemporaneidade. A metodologia empregada foi a pesquisa qualitativa por meio de análise de conteúdo das biografias e da trajetória de Karol Wojtyla, a hermenêutica dos documentos do Magistério da Igreja Católica da atualidade, fazendo uma reflexão interpretativa do material especificado com a pesquisa em Ciências da Religião, que abordaram o tema do sofrimento humano. A partir desta análise, nossa dissertação apresenta três capítulos. No primeiro, explicitamos como o sofrimento se fez presente na vida de Karol Wojtyla, desde a sua origem polonesa passando pelo atentado contra a sua vida, culminando no declínio de seu vigor físico atingido pela doença. No segundo capítulo, ponto central de nossa dissertação, faremos uma contextualização histórica apresentando possíveis pontos convergentes nos escritos anteriores ao papado de João Paulo II, do Concílio Vaticano II e do Jubileu Extraordinário da Redenção, que puderam influenciar a publicação da Salvifici Doloris, fazendo uma brevíssima apresentação. No capítulo terceiro, oferecemos os desdobramentos que a Carta Apostólica trouxe na história da Igreja, como a criação do Dia Mundial do Enfermo até chegarmos a via dolorosa do próprio João Paulo II e sua morte abraçando o sofrimento redentor de Cristo. Conscientes da insuficiência das palavras diante do sofrimento, propomos com essa pesquisa em Ciências da Religião, que dialoga com a Teologia, a Filosofia e a História, destacamos que a Igreja Católica através do magistério e da vida de João Paulo II, oferece o caminho da compaixão humana, interpelados pelo Evangelho e pela parábola do “Bom Samaritano”. A Salvifici Doloris propõe um duplo aspecto sobre o sentido cristão para o sofrimento humano: fazer bem com o sofrimento e fazer o bem a quem sofre.

The Apostolic Letter Salvifici Doloris on the Christian meaning of suffering, published during the pontificate of John Paul II (1978-2005) is a document in which human suffering is addressed in a large and systematic way. Salvifici Doloris presents a Christian meaning to suffering, having as its horizon the life, the passion, death and resurrection of Christ who brought Redemption to human beings. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is taking a phenomenological approach based on the life of Karol Wojtyla (before and after becoming pope), showing the developments that this pontifical document brought to the Catholic Church in contemporary times. The methodology used was qualitative research through content analysis of the biographies and trajectory of Karol Wojtyla, the hermeneutics of the documents of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church today, making an interpretative reflection of the specified material with the research in Religious Sciences, which was addressed the topic of human suffering. Based on this analysis, our dissertation presents three chapters. In the first one, we explain how suffering was present in Karol Wojtyla's life, from his Polish origin to the attempt on his life, culminating in the decline of his physical vigor affected by the disease. In the second chapter, the main point of our dissertation, we will provide a historical contextualization presenting possible converging points in the previous writings to the papacy of John Paul II, the Second Vatican Council and the Extraordinary Jubilee of Redemption, which influenced the publication of Salvifici Doloris, making a brief presentation. In the third chapter, we offer the developments that the Apostolic Letter brought in the history of the Church, such as the creation of the World Day of the Sick until we reach the painful path of John Paul II and his death embracing the redemptive suffering of Christ. Aware of the lack of words in the face of suffering, we propose with this research in Religious Sciences, which dialogues with Theology, Philosophy and History, we highlight that the Catholic Church, through the magisterium and life of John Paul II, offers the path of human compassion, challenged by the Gospel and the parable of the “Good Samaritan”. Salvifici Doloris proposes a double aspect of the Christian meaning of human suffering: doing good with suffering and doing good to those who suffer.
