Formação do território Bragantino Paulista: o papel dos bairros rurais, fazendas mistas e capelas filiais

Abstract

Esta pesquisa analisa a formação histórica da rede urbana de Bragança Paulista desde o início da ocupação do seu território, no século XVIII, até a primeira metade do século XX, procurando abordar aspectos econômicos, sociais e políticos, construindo um novo olhar sobre a história da formação do território. Na reconstituição desta rede urbana se dá visibilidade ao papel dos bairros rurais na formação do território, visando à compreensão da formação específica da região de Bragança Paulista, interpretando o território formado a partir de caminhos, povoados de diferentes escalas, ações sociais, políticas e econômicas que movem as transformações. A pesquisa aborda o início da formação de um território como lugar de passagem; a formação incipiente de uma economia de subsistência na região no início do século XVIII; a passagem desta economia de subsistência para uma economia agropastoril voltada para o abastecimento da capital; a consolidação desta economia pastoril com especialização na produção do toucinho; a inserção da produção do café na economia bragantina. Na análise deste processo procuramos verificar as alterações do território buscando evidenciar os fenômenos que contribuíram para sua consolidação. Utiliza-se a análise cartográfica e a análise de dados primários, sobretudo os censos demográficos, tabulando a localização, quantidade e, consequentemente, a importância do território rural, dando destaque aos bairros rurais, evidenciando-os como parte fundamental para a compreensão da história urbana, inserindo-os na economia, sociedade e política de diferentes contextos no período de análise. Evidencia-se, ainda, como a Igreja Católica, instituição fundamental na ocupação do território no Período Colonial, continuou atuando de forma determinante nesta formação no período do Império e na Primeira República.

This research analyzes the historical formation of the urban network of Bragança Paulista since the beginning of the occupation of its territory, in the 18th century, until the first half of the 20th century, seeking to address economic, social and political aspects, building a new look at the history of the formation of the territory. In the reconstitution of this urban network, visibility is given to the role of rural neighborhoods in the formation of the territory, aiming to understand the specific formation of the region of Bragança Paulista, interpreting the territory formed from paths, villages of different scales, social, political and economic actions that move the transformations. The research addresses the beginning of the formation of a territory as a place of passage; the incipient formation of a subsistence economy in the region at the beginning of the 18th century; the transition from this subsistence economy to an agropastoral economy aimed at supplying the capital; the consolidation of this pastoral economy with specialization in the production of bacon; the insertion of coffee production in the Bragantine economy. In the analysis of this process, we tried to verify the changes in the territory, seeking to highlight the phenomena that contributed to its consolidation. Cartographic analysis and primary data analysis are used, especially demographic censuses, tabulating the location, quantity and, consequently, the importance of rural territory, highlighting rural neighborhoods, highlighting them as a fundamental part of understanding history urban, inserting them in the economy, society and politics of different contexts in the period of analysis. It is also evident how the Catholic Church, a fundamental institution in the occupation of the territory in the Colonial Period, continued to act in a decisive manner in this formation during the period of the Empire and the First Republic.
