Relações sáficas na ficção seriada contemporânea: análise narrativa e estilística de Euphoria

Abstract

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo geral compreender a representação das relações sáficas na ficção seriada contemporânea, a partir da série Euphoria, produzida e veiculada pela plataforma de streaming HBO Max. Os objetivos específicos foram: revisitar os conceitos de identidade, heteronormatividade e performatividade, no âmbito da teoria queer; estudar a construção narrativa e estilística de cenas que evidenciam o relacionamento afetivo entre as personagens Rue e Jules; e discutir, em complementação à telepoética, as relações socioculturais presentes nos recortes realizados. De caráter qualitativo e de abordagem interpretativa, esta pesquisa adotou como metodologia: um levantamento bibliográfico de publicações científicas que abordem as questões da não heteronormatividade em séries produzidas por e/ou exibidas em plataformas de streaming; uma revisão teórica de estudos de gênero e sexualidade, a partir de Judith Butler (1999), Eve K. Sedgwick (1985), Berenice Bento (2008) e Adriana Agostini (2020); e uma análise narrativa e estilística de cenas recortadas da série, com base em Jeremy G. Butler (2010) e David Bordwell (2005; 2008; 2013). Os resultados permitiram visualizar possíveis aproximações entre os estudos de gênero e sexualidade em diálogo com o campo teórico dos estudos de televisão e televisualidades. A partir disso, concluiu-se que a representação do casal lésbico, contando com a observação e pesquisa de outros casais representados em outras séries e filmes, foi construída de maneira progressiva, auxiliada pela movimentação das câmeras, pelas cores utilizadas, pelos diálogos e por outras escolhas técnicas do audiovisual.

This research aimed to understand the representation of sapphic relationships in contemporary serial fiction, based on the series Euphoria, produced and broadcast by the streaming platform HBO Max. The specific objectives were to revisit the concepts of identity, heteronormativity and performativity, within the scope of of queer theory; to study the narrative and stylistic construction of scenes that show the affective relationship between the characters Rue and Jules; and to discuss, in addition to telepoetics, the sociocultural relations present in the cuts made. Qualitative and with an interpretative approach, this research adopted the following methodology: a bibliographic survey of scientific publications that address the issues of nonheteronormativity in series produced by and/or shown on streaming platforms; a theoretical review of gender and sexuality studies, based on Judith Butler (1999), Eve K. Sedgwick (1985), Berenice Bento (2008), and Adriana Agostini (2020); and a narrative and stylistic analysis of cut scenes from the series, based on Jeremy G. Butler (2010) and David Bordwell (2005; 2008; 2013). The results allowed us to visualize possible approximations between gender and sexuality studies in dialogue with the theoretical field of television and televisuality studies. From this, it was concluded that the representation of the lesbian couple, counting on the observation and research of other couples represented in other series and films, was built in a progressive way, aided by the movement of the cameras, by the colors used, by the dialogues and by other audiovisual technical choices.
