Sob a penumbra da Luz: a invenção de um território tido como “promíscuo”

Abstract

O presente trabalho se empenhou em investigar o que se entende por região da Luz na cidade de São Paulo, buscando, na gênese e no desenvolvimento da localidade, pistas para entender a narrativa de degradação presente na contemporaneidade. Objetivando entender a construção das narrativas de conteúdo negativo e legitimar o direito à cidade de atores estigmatizados pela situação de rua, a pesquisa pretendeu contribuir com os estudos sobre o sentido de lugar em espaços de memórias difíceis, bem como suscitar o debate sobre a apropriação do espaço público por essas pessoas, revelando a manifestação da sua produção cultural. Além da pesquisa de campo, a investigação se pautou em análises bibliográficas, cartográficas, iconográficas e de documentação jornalística, através das quais se constatou a estigmatização do lugar pela dicotomia de significados entre bairro popular e bairro aristocrata, em que a requalificação urbana aparece como meio de promoção da assepsia urbana pela supressão do conteúdo popular local, assim como de suas manifestações culturais que se perpetuam no espaço como vestígios de um modo de ser.

The present work endeavored to investigate what is understood as the region of Luz in the city of São Paulo, seeking, in the genesis and in the development of the locale, clues to understand the narrative of degradation present in contemporary times. Aiming to understand the construction of negative content narratives and legitimize the right to the city of actors that were stigmatized by living in the streets, the research intended to contribute to studies on the sense of place in spaces of difficult memories, as well as to raise the debate on the appropriation of the public space by these people, revealing the manifestation of their cultural production. In addition to field research, the investigation was based on bibliographic, cartographic, iconographic and journalistic documentation analyses, through which the stigmatization of the place was verified by the dichotomy of meanings between popular neighborhood and aristocratic neighborhood, in which urban requalification appears as a means of promoting urban sterilization by suppressing popular local content, as well as its cultural manifestations that are perpetuated in space as vestiges of a way of being.
