Since Cardinal Bergoglio became Pope Francis, the world has witnessed the prominence with which his speech has reached different niches and environments of civil society outside the Catholic Church and even religious institution. Under strong popular acclaim, the current Roman Pontiff has often been welcomed into the scientific and secular community thanks to his stances and pronouncements that cover far broader agendas compared to the religious and doctrinally-formatted discourse –traditional features of previous popes’ papacy. In this sense, this article has particular interest on the Encyclical Letter Laudato Si', launched in 2015 with the aim of expressing Francis' concerns and proposals for the current environmental scenario. Acclaimed by activists andexperts in the field, the pontifical document showed that the Pope's theological and institutional articulation does not limit his ability to produce a speech qualified enough to promote a fecund dialogue with the secular world. This paper presents the credibility of Francis’ speech through the exhibition of some of the numerous publications of renowned communication vehicles, both in the international media and in the field of ecology and environmental defense. Finally, we seek to demonstrate the growing inconsistencies existent between Pope Francis'pleas and the environmental policy of the current Bolsonaro's government, a relationship that has gained new ruptures after the Amazon Synod in 2019
