Ficção científica, mortes e viagens intergaláticas: narrativa fantástica e estilo insólito na série de animação The Midnight Gospel

Abstract

Partindo dos estudos de narrativa fantástica no audiovisual, o presente trabalho analisa a série de ficção científica The Midnight Gospel (2020), animação criada por Pendleton Ward e Duncan Trussell para a rede de streaming Netflix. Na trama, o telespectador acompanha o cotidiano de Clancy, que, com seu simulador de realidades, vive experiências de morte enquanto conhece seres inusitados de outros planetas e os entrevista para seu podcast intergaláctico. A partir disso, o trabalho fundamenta-se no objetivo de identificar a estrutura narrativa utilizada no decorrer da animação, embasando-se nos estudos de narrativa fantástica e estilo insólito. Desse modo, a metodologia empregada parte de levantamento bibliográfico, seguido de análise narrativa e estilística do produto. Espera-se, com isso, fortalecer os estudos de narrativa fantástica e poéticas audiovisuais.

: Starting from studies of fantastic narrative in audiovisual, this work analyzes the science fiction series The Midnight Gospel (2020), animation created by Pendleton Ward and Duncan Trussell for the Netflix streaming network. In the plot, the viewer follows the daily life of Clancy, who, with his reality simulator, experiences death while meeting unusual beings from other planets and interviews them for his intergalactic podcast. From this, the work is based on the objective of identifying the narrative structure used throughout the animation, based on studies of fantastic narrative and unusual style. Thus, the methodology used starts from the bibliographic survey, followed by the narrative and stylistic analysis of the product. It is hoped, with this, to strengthen the studies of fantastic narrative and audiovisual poetics.
