Among the challenges faced by school administrators and teachers in the daily life of basic education, learning assessment stands out, above all, due to the current public policies in education, with emphasis on assessment, teacher training, and inclusion of students with disabilities. In this perspective, the general objective of this research is to investigate the challenges of evaluating mathematics learning in the final years of elementary school in remote teaching time in the perception of teachers of a state public school in the city of Paulínia (SP). In a survey carried out at the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) and at the Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), no studies were found on the assessment of learning, with regard to the teaching of mathematics in the final years of elementary school, in time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative research, predominant in this study, does not disregard quantifiable data. The production of empirical material will take place through narratives of mathematics teachers, between the years 2020 and 2021. The locus of the research will be a state public school located in the city of Paulínia (SP). Participants will be four teachers who teach mathematics in the final years of elementary school. The research participants were five teachers who teach mathematics in the final years of elementary school, in the mentioned period. The analysis of the narratives revealed that the main challenges of assessing mathematics learning in the pandemic period were the difficulty of accessing technologies and/or the internet for teachers and, above all, for students; the low attendance of students in remote classes; the absence of interaction with teachers and students. The teachers, in their written/oral narratives, also pointed out as a challenge that implied the evaluation of learning, the difficulty in understanding the content taught and the restricted space for clarifying doubts. As for the evaluative activities, the teachers reported having used activities sent through online platforms and printed activities, considering students who did not have access to the internet. There was an effort by teachers to include students with disabilities in assessment activities, which, for the most part, took place through printed activities made available to families. In the teachers' narratives, it was evident that the public assessment policies of the state of São Paulo had an effect on the curriculum and assessment, in view of the guidance they received on the contents and forms of assessment given, with a view to improving the school's results. However, the teachers in their narratives pointed out the students' lack of commitment and disinterest in carrying out external assessments other than their own in remote teaching time. In any case, the results of students in the external evaluations that are part of public evaluation policies in the state of São Paulo, in the pandemic period, signaled that the COVID-19 pandemic affected student learning. The pandemic period made learning possible for educators in general. Regarding the assessment of learning, although the research did not reveal possible advances and/or innovations, the concern with an inclusive assessment was latent.
