Abstract Throughout the urbanization process, water bodies were disregarded and, as urban expansion occurred, river profiles changed. The city of Barretos, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, has its urban area cut through by channeled and rectified streams, which, on days of heavy rain, favors the occurrence of socio-environmental disasters. The city's water bodies belong to the Baixo Pardo Grande Basin (UGRHI-12), with the Aleixo Stream being the city's main stream, with tributaries in rural and urban areas. This research seeks to act on urban land and considers that qualifying the territory of a tributary is an immediate and feasible solution for urban qualification, restoration of ecosystems, water bodies and their banks, at the local level, as well as an exemplary manifestation, in the sense of its potential for replicability. The case study selected for discussion of urban requalification methodology, the tributary São Sebastião Stream, is partially exposed and inserted in a consolidated urban network. The objective of the research, from a multi-scale territorial reading, was to investigate the current situation of the São Sebastião Stream and test the revitalization of urban spaces, with the methodology based on the regional urban analysis, from references such the Ecological-Economic Zoning and the Environmental Quality Report of the State of São Paulo, on principles and actions established by Nature-Based Solutions (SbN), on the comparison of analogies, on the diagnosis of the São Sebastião Stream and definition of the detailed cut. The structuring of guidelines and spatial tests for the application of green and blue infrastructures, such as ecological drainage and urban afforestation, resulted in solutions for better coexistence with the water system, forming a systematized collection for the case study, as a pilot, and constituting a well-founded methodology capable of systemic replication in the municipality itself or for similar situations, considering their specificities, in the sense of more balanced relationships between urban space and natural systems.
