Requalificação urbana e a introdução de novos usos no patrimônio ferroviário de Piracicaba

Abstract

O objetivo geral desta pesquisa é analisar o patrimônio ferroviário da cidade de Piracicaba a partir da prerrogativa de reutilização de edifícios de valor histórico, arquitetônico e cultural. Essa análise acompanha as transformações implementadas no desenvolvimento urbano da região verificadas com o início, funcionamento e posterior encerramento das atividades ferroviárias e das suas estações durante cerca de 100 anos. O estudo busca compreender o impacto urbano e econômico e social dessas ferrovias na cidade. O trabalho analisa a requalificação das estações ocorrida com a introdução de novos usos urbanos. Nesse contexto, destacamos o sistema de "Terminal Central de Integração" (TCI), que transformou a antiga estação da Companhia Sorocabana em terminal de ônibus e o "Plano de Ação para a Reabilitação da Área Central de Piracicaba", que revitalizou o complexo da Companhia Paulista, convertendo-o em um centro cultural e de lazer. A pesquisa também explora as vantagens da preservação e não demolição dos edifícios, ressaltando a proteção ambiental e a manutenção das características originais do espaço. Nesse sentido, a contribuição da presente pesquisa é desenvolver um método que caracterize a relevância da readequação e reutilização dos patrimônios ferroviários de Piracicaba para fins diferentes dos originais, focando na valorização do espaço público da área central e analisando o uso atual pela população nesses novos espaços.

Abstract The general objective of this research is to analyze the railway heritage of the city of Piracicaba from the perspective of reusing buildings with historical, architectural, and cultural value. This analysis tracks the transformations implemented in the region's urban development, observed with the initiation, operation, and eventual closure of railway activities and stations over a period of approximately 100 years. The study seeks to understand the urban, economic, and social impact of these railways on the city. The work examines the revitalization of the stations that occurred with the introduction of new urban uses. In this context, we highlight the "Central Integration Terminal" (TCI) system, which transformed the old Sorocabana Company station into a bus terminal, and the "Action Plan for the Rehabilitation of Piracicaba's Central Area," which revitalized the Paulista Company complex, converting it into a cultural and leisure center. The research also explores the benefits of preservation and the non-demolition of the buildings, emphasizing environmental protection and the maintenance of the space's original characteristics. In this sense, the contribution of this research is to develop a method that characterizes the relevance of the requalification and reuse of Piracicaba's railway heritage for purposes different from the original, focusing on the enhancement of the public space in the central area and analyzing its current use by the population in these new spaces.
