O liberalismo de John Locke e sua estrutura de sociedade política

Abstract

Esta monografia aborda o liberalismo de John Locke e suas implicações na estrutura de sociedade política proposta pelo filósofo. Considerando que parte significativa das sociedades humanas desde o início do processo de globalização tem se organizado a partir da perspectiva política liberal, é necessário, independente de qual seja ou venha a ser o posicionamento defendido por nós, compreendermos a construção desse pensamento político. O objetivo deste trabalho é realizar uma análise sobre o liberalismo de John Locke, explorando suas considerações a respeito das conexões entre conhecimento, racionalidade, valores morais e a construção de sociedades harmoniosas e justas. Os problemas específicos deste estudo consistem em investigar temas abordados por Locke, tais como a soberania do Estado, seus poderes, o papel da sociedade civil e suas implicações, tendo em vista a defesa da propriedade e da liberdade que, para o filósofo, garantiriam o estado de paz. Inicialmente, será apresentada uma breve biografia de John Locke, bem como a indicação de suas principais obras. Em seguida, serão analisados conceitos de estado de natureza, estado de guerra e propriedade, e as primeiras conexões estabelecidas pelo filósofo entre racionalidade, valores morais e constituição de sociedades. Por fim, serão aprofundadas as associações estabelecidas por Locke entre racionalidade, ética individual, sociedade civil, trabalho, propriedade, liberdade e a organização de uma sociedade política liberal.

This monograph addresses John Locke’s liberalism and its implications for the structure of political society proposed by the philosopher. Considering that a significant part of human societies, since the beginning of the globalization process, has been organized from a liberal political perspective, it is necessary-regardless of which position we may hold or come to hold—to understand the construction of this political thought. The objective of this work is to carry out an analysis of John Locke’s liberalism, exploring his considerations regarding the connections between knowledge, rationality, moral values, and the construction of harmonious and just societies. The specific problems of this study consist in investigating themes addressed by Locke, such as state sovereignty, its powers, the role of civil society, and its implications, with a view to defending the idea of property and freedom which, for the philosopher, guarantee a state of peace. Initially, a brief biography of Locke will be presented, as well as an introduction to his main works. Following this, Locke’s concepts of the state of nature, the state of war, and property will be analyzed, along with the first connections established by the philosopher between rationality, moral values, and the constitution of societies. Finally, Locke’s associations between rationality, individual ethics, civil society, labor, property, freedom, and the organization of a liberal political society will be examined in greater depth.
