Abstract This research, partly funded by the Center of Solidarity Attention (NAS), was developed within the Postgraduate Program in Education at PUC-Campinas, in the research line of Teacher Education and Pedagogical Practices, and with the research groups GentES and HiNaS. The objective of the work was to identify and discuss understandings about reading and writing experiences, and their (re)membering through narrative, for the professional development of Basic Education teachers. To understand how the (re)membered experiences of the teachers touched upon their life stories, education, and professional development, the narrative approach was adopted, combined with the conception of memory as a dynamic of (re)signifying the past in articulation with the present, in order to influence the action of the subjects. In this sense, collective experiences, shared socially, are accessed through this (narrative) approach, through which it is possible to immerse oneself carefully and deeply in what is habitual in the daily life of teachers. Developed from the creation of a collaboratively inspired group and through researcheducation , this investigation made use of oral and written narratives, generated in discussion circles, through which a narrative community was established. In this community, announcements, denunciations, tensions, and rapprochements could be heard and amplified through the establishment of a space for active listening for those who are often not heard in this process. As a lens for identifying and investigating these narratives, the evidentiary paradigm was used as a method to uncover the signs and clues through which teaching experiences reveal daily practices and conceptions about reading and writing. Alongside this method, as a way to reflect on, discuss, and understand the development of reading and writing in teacher education, the contributions of Freire, Vigotski, and Bakhtin were used to broaden and deepen what the narratives revealed. Finally, the narratives contributed to the debate on reading and writing as learning rights, considering lived experiences as triggers for new knowledge, as well as highlighting teacher education from a dialogical perspective as a mechanism for empowerment and recovery of teaching intellect.
