Práticas urbanas: as intervenções do “Arte/Cidade” em São Paulo

Abstract

A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar as intervenções artísticas do grupo “Arte/Cidade – Grupo de Intervenções Urbanas” na cidade de São Paulo, entre os anos de 1994 e 2002, e discutir em que medida elas podem ser compreendidas como práticas urbanas. A metodologia empregada é de abordagem histórica, partindo de pesquisas bibliográficas, documentais e de campo. Os eventos implementados pelo grupo se caracterizaram como intervenções urbanas, mediante propostas de projetos arquitetônicos e artísticos que aconteceram em quatro edições: o “Cidade sem Janelas”, realizado no antigo matadouro da Vila Mariana (1994), a “Cidade e seus Fluxos”, realizado em três edifícios da região central da cidade e no Vale do Anhangabaú (1994), “A Cidade e suas Histórias”, que tinha como ponto de partida a Estação da Luz e um trecho ferroviário na região Oeste (1997), e o último, “Zona Leste”, ocupando uma grande parte da região Leste de São Paulo (2002). Quanto aos objetivos específicos, que correspondem à estruturação dos capítulos, tratou-se de; i) examinar os conceitos relacionados à atuação das artes nas cidades, às intervenções urbanas, e às práticas urbanas; ii) investigar o caráter e as características dos quatro eventos; e por fim, iii) revisitar os territórios das intervenções para construir uma leitura crítica da cidade atual, comparando as situações observadas pelo Arte/Cidade. As intervenções buscaram explorar a diversidade e a dinâmica dessas áreas, aspecto que a pesquisa analisa criticamente a partir de seus efeitos e limites. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa investiga em que medida a experiência do Arte/Cidade pode ser compreendida não apenas como um evento artístico, mas como um dispositivo crítico capaz de produzir leituras sensíveis e simbólicas sobre a cidade, discutindo seus limites enquanto prática urbana. Abstract This research aims to analyze the artistic interventions of the group “Arte/Cidade – Grupo de Intervenções Urbanas” in the city of São Paulo, between 1994 and 2002, and to discuss to what extent they can be understood as urban practices. The methodology employed is a historical approach, based on bibliographic, documentary, and field research. The events developed by the group were characterized as urban interventions, through proposals for developed and artistic projects that took place in four editions: “Cidade sem Janelas” (City without Windows), held in the old slaughterhouse of Vila Mariana (1994), “Cidade e seus Fluxos” (City and its Flows), held in three buildings in the central region of the city and in the Anhangabaú Valley (1994), “A Cidade e suas Histórias” (The City and its Stories), which had as its starting point the Luz Station and a section in the West region (1997), and the last, “Zona Leste” (East Zone), occupying a large part of the East region of São Paulo (2002). Regarding the specific objectives, which include the structuring of the chapters, the aim was to: i) examine the concepts related to the role of the arts in cities, urban interventions, and urban practices; ii) investigate the character and characteristics of the four events; and finally, iii) revisit the territories of the interventions to construct a critical reading of the current city, comparing the situations observed by Arte/Cidade. The disciplines sought to explore the diversity and dynamics of these areas, an aspect that the research critically analyzes from its effects and limitations. In this sense, this research investigates to what extent the Arte/Cidade experience can be understood not only as an artistic event, but as a critical device capable of producing sensitive and symbolic readings about the city, discussing its limits as an urban practice.
